  1. Know Before You Go

    We look forward to seeing you next week for the 2013 National Network Meeting — Students at the Center of Learning: Closing the Opportunity Gap with Afterschool & Summer Learning. We are grateful for your participation, input in developing the meeting and commitment to improving afterschool and expanded learning.

    Agenda Information

    The meeting will take place from Monday, February 4, 2013 to Thursday, February 7, 2013. The majority of the meeting will take place at the JW Marriott Washington DC, 1331 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC.

    Registration will open at 8:00 am on Monday, February 4th and will be located on the Ballroom level in front of Salons III and IV.

    Airport Transportation

    The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is located 4 miles from the JW Marriott DC. A hotel courtesy van is not available. Instead, you can reach the hotel concierge for car service information by calling 202-393-2000. Alternatively you can choose to rent a car, take a taxi or use the DC Metro, the local public transit system.

    • Taxi: Approximately $15 – $20 one-way.
    • Metro: From the airport you can get on the blue line and take it directly to Metro Center. Use the 13th and G Street exit, walk down G Street towards 14th, go left on 14th street and you will see the entrance to the hotel on the SE corner of the block.
    • Car Rental: Major car rental agencies are located at the airport. Advanced reservations are recommended.
    • For driving directions you may visit the hotel website.

  2. Kumar Garg to Speak to the Networks

    We are pleased to announce that Kumar Garg, Senior Advisor to the Deputy Director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, will join us for a special discussion with network leads during the plenary on the morning of Wednesday, February 6.

    Kumar Garg is a Senior Advisor to the Deputy Director at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy focusing on education and broader innovation policy. Prior to his time in government, Garg worked on behalf of parents and children seeking educational reform as an education lawyer and advocate.

    Garg leads President Obama’s “Educate to Innovate” campaign to improve science, technology, engineering and math education (STEM). As part of Educate to Innovate, which already has secured over $700 million in private sector commitments, he works with a broad range of industry, foundations, philanthropists, states, non-profits, professional societies, and federal agencies to build on the President’s call to action.
