Release of new book with 100+ authors supporting expanded learning opportunities

Never before has afterschool been better positioned as an important tool to use in addressing our nation’s education challenges, especially in closing the achievement gap.  With new research and a growing chorus about the power of afterschool and expanded learning opportunities, now is the time to unite across a range of disciplines to improve student success.

On Tuesday, February 5th, participants in the national network meeting will be a part of a live event at the National Press Club featuring leaders from states, national organizations and education agencies who have authored articles for a new book that will be released at the event.

Reshaping policy for the next generation of student-centered learning

2013 marks the beginning of the 113th Congress, bringing renewed debate and discussion on the national policy landscape around education.  The national network meeting will focus on the changing policy landscape—at the national and state levels—and the role of networks in informing and shaping this landscape to ensure affordable, sustainable learning opportunities for young people powered by school-community partnerships.

On Thursday, February 7, the Afterschool Alliance invites all meeting participants to its annual Breakfast of Champions honoring those leaders showing the power of afterschool in their states and communities.
